Finding Fulfillment

Full schedules can keep us from fullness. That seems odd, given how we are led to believe that full schedules indicate fulfillment. Most of the time busyness leaves us tired, worn out, and disappointed. We are so busy heading from one activity to another, we miss life. We busily pursue those activities we believe will bring value to our lives, but end up disappointed and discouraged.

Endless pursuits of who knows what, seems sensible, but leaves us frustrated.

As Augustine prayed, “You created us for yourself and our hearts are restless until they rest in thee.” Augustine discovered that all of his pursuits did not bring satisfaction. When he rested his heart in God, his heart was filled.

When we pursue God’s mission and vision, we find fulfillment.

Our Journey Together

Recently, I’ve been talking about Fruitful Congregations Journey (FCJ) more. The FCJ process can be significant in a congregation’s life. I want to make sure everyone has an opportunity to participate, so that we might hear the voice of God speaking through our community of faith.

FCJ has the potential to transform our church by helping us discern God’s vision. As a community of faith, we seek to listen to God and hear his call. God brought us together for purpose and mission. He calls us to join him in healing brokenness and putting the world back to rights.

Being part of God’s mission is an incredible opportunity. We find fulfillment as we participate in God’s kingdom purposes. Joy embraces us when we embrace our purpose within God’s mission. We can ignore or discount the power purpose has, or we can seek to discover our purpose, finding joy in the journey as we pray and seek God together.

Embracing the Vision

What if the church was a group of individuals who are seeking God’s purpose together? What if we discern God’s mission and vision? What if we embrace that vision?

Instead of group of individuals heading in different directions, what if we were traveling together following God’s purpose and plan for our lives?

FCJ can help us, as a community, embrace and fulfill God’s vision. I’m looking forward to the journey and hope you will come along!

A couple of important times and dates are February 18th at 10 am in the Fellowship hall and March 4th at 10:15 – 3 pm in the fellowship hall. On the 18th we will meet our church coach and participate in a pre-consultation workshop. on March 4th we will join the consultation team as we pray, learn, think, listen and dream.

Peace,

David.
